“Honda expects brighter year in 2011” |
| Honda expects brighter year in 2011 Posted: 01 Feb 2011 12:03 AM PST "While Honda's exports dropped in 2009 due to the global economic downturn, the company saw a solid recovery in 2010 thanks to the strength of our business in Thailand as well as customers' trust in the quality of our products. We anticipate even further growth in the year ahead, expecting exports from Thailand in 2011 to exceed Bt100 billion," said Fumihiko Ike, president & CEO, Asian Honda Motor. In a statement, Honda said it starts the year 2011 with an expanded manufacturing base for several new models. For motorcycles, it started exporting the new CBR250R, Thailand's premium sport model, in January 2011. For automobiles, Brio, part of the government's support for eco-car project, would be exported, mainly to Asean countries. "We hope all these efforts will help boost Honda's export value in this near future," added Ike. The export value of Bt97.6 billion last year represented a 37.4 per cent increase from the previous year. Exports were driven mainly by automobile CBU and CKD units, which accounted for Bt59 billion, or 60.5 per cent of total export value; followed by motorcycle CBU and CKD units and part kits at Bt22.77 billion, representing 23.3 per cent of the total value; and power products at Bt12 billion, or 12.3 per cent. Remaining exports included spare parts, accessories and dies & molds worth Bt3.76 billion baht, or 3.9 per cent.
